Exciting, unexcpected, and exceptional.

Bo knows when the New York Mets offer you $126 million over three years with opt outs after each of the first two seasons, you take it. The stunning signing should be met with praise. The criticisms aren’t all that much different than anyone who would have thought Kyle Tucker was an ill-fit. Good teams need good players. Bichette is one of them.

Reveling in the fallout of this move, these are the five reasons why, if you should be as lovestruck by this move as others.

Here’s why fans should love these move

1) He’s the exact bat they needed

A lifetime .294 hitter averaging 24 home runs and 95 RBI per 162 games, Bichette is the exact type of well-rounded hitter missing from the middle of the Mets lineup. The fact that he’s right-handed helps, too. No longer is there any concern about being too left-handed. Miniscule in some regards, it does feel like Bichette is closer to what the Mets were missing in the lineup. Forget the defensive questions for now. That bat is going to do the talking.

2) They stole a Phillies target

Bichette was going to go to the Philadelphia Phillies before the offer came from the Mets. Their immediate response was to re-sign J.T. Realmuto which doesn’t exactly improve them. A needed addition for them, it was always destined to occur and the loss of Bichette gave them added incentive to agree to a deal. Nevertheless, the big win here is an NL East rival misses and might get stuck with an insufficient option at third base. Alec “Boom Mic” Bohm is never getting out of Philly, is he?

3) They took him from the Red Sox, too, setting up for a trade possibility

Aside from the Phillies, the Boston Red Sox were a well-known destination for Bichette. They splashed by stealing Ranger Suarez from the Phillies (they had little interest in a reunion). With no obvious solution at third base now for the Red Sox, we should believe the Mets and Red Sox line up for a possible trade centered on Jarren Duran for Brett Baty.

4) The Mets now have tradable assets to land a starting pitcher

Baty can go to more places than the Red Sox. Milwaukee Brewers for Freddy Peralta? Detroit Tigers for Tarik Skubal? It will, of course, cost a lot more than Baty to get either trade done. The Mets have added motivation to trade Mark Vientos as well. Ronny Mauricio and even third base prospect Jacob Reimer are two more names to consider putting into a trade package. Bichette might only be here for one year. In that year, the Mets can turn a profit by swapping some less necessary pieces.

5) The contract is better than Kyle Tucker’s

Kyle Tucker’s contract is double that of Bichette with only one added year and an opt out after the second and third seasons. Frankly, the opt out after one year feels a little bit smoother. Bichette is younger than Tucker, getting paid less, and has opened up so many more possibilities than the new Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder would have. In the span of about 14 hours, the Tucker decision crushed us and the Bichette signing re-inflated fans.
