4) Nathaniel Lowe - The Buy Low Guy

“Buy low on Nathaniel Lowe” would be a good campaign slogan if we really wanted him. A Gold Glove winner in 2023, he had a crash on defense last year to begin his time with the Washington Nationals. Things got better when he joined the Boston Red Sox even though he made an unforgivable error in the playoffs.

Good for a home run total in the high teens every year, this would be a gravely disappointing turn of events at first base if this was the solution. The Mets need to do better than gamble on a guy who was non-tendered by a Boston Red Sox club that doesn’t have a solution at the position themselves.

It’s minor, but I also hate the fact he’s a left-handed hitter because it feels like the outfielder they’d need to add to save this offseason for the Mets would be one, too. Bellinger or Kyle Tucker feels like a must if your first base solution is Lowe.

Fortunately, not even David Stearns is going to go down this aisle. Neither will he do so with Josh Bell, Paul Goldschmidt, or anyone else who just doesn’t have that oomph in their bat. What else is left out there?
