Anyone who grew up watching Nickelodeon's Guts remembers the Aggro Crag. Lights flashing everywhere, obstacles flying in from odd angles, and kids scrambling upward while trying not to lose their footing. That competition feels familiar when you look at the New York Mets farm system right now. It is loaded with talent, crowded with capable players, and constantly in motion. When a system is this deep, things move fast. One stretch of games is sometimes all it takes for a name to start sticking.

Recently, Bleacher Report put out an article naming one breakout prospect for each organization, including the Amazins. It’s a clean snapshot and a fair way to frame the conversation. But with the amount of talent packed into this system, narrowing it down to a single name only tells part of the story. Depth creates options, competition creates movement, and breakouts start on the lower levels. So let’s go to Mo for the results and see who’s starting to show up on the radar.

Five players who could challenge for the breakout New York Mets prospect

Heriberto Rincon

Heriberto Rincón has been building his case since signing as an international free agent in January 2023. The 19-year-old outfielder has spent the past three seasons with Mets Orange in the Dominican Summer League, and this year, the production caught up to the projection. Rincón slashed .314/.383/.821 over 185 at-bats, collecting 16 extra-base hits among his 58 knocks while keeping his strikeout rate at a tidy 15 percent. He drove in 27 RBI’s, scored 42 runs, and stole 34 bases, flashing a well-rounded offensive profile that continues to improve.

Edward Lantigua

Edward Lantigua signed as an international free agent in January of 2024, picking up a $950,000 signing bonus in the process. The 19-year-old outfielder started off in the Dominican Summer League, splitting time between the Mets Orange and Blue teams before making the jump stateside in 2025. In the Florida Complex League, he hit .288/.433/.832 over 153 at-bats with 27 RBIs and 23 runs scored. What stands out for Lantigua was his 33 walks, 29 strikeouts, a 15 percent strikeout rate, and 10 extra-base hits mixed into 44 total hits.

Jose Chirinos

Jose Chirinos is a 21-year-old right-handed pitcher who was signed as an international free agent in 2022. He started in the Dominican Summer League with the Mets Orange squad before spending the last two seasons between the Florida Complex League and Single-A St. Lucie. In 2025, across both clubs, he pitched to a 3.01 ERA, allowing 51 hits and 36 walks while striking out 73 in 71.2 innings. His ability to keep the ball in the park has been a highlight, allowing just a 0.13 HR/9 while holding opposing hitters to a .195 BAA. His control was an issue, as he allowed 4.5 BB/9, which has been a theme in his short career.

Josmir Reyes

Josmir Reyes signed with the Mets as an international free agent in January of 2024, and his first full season came in 2025. The 19-year-old catcher spent that year in the Dominican Summer League with the Mets Orange squad and put together one of the more polished offensive lines in the system. Reyes hit .300/.426/.906 across 150 at-bats, driving in 28 runs and scoring 28 more. The approach jumps off the page. He walked 34 times while striking out just 15, good for an 8 percent strikeout rate, and added 17 extra-base hits among his 45 total hits.

Osiris Calvo

Osiris Calvo signed as an international free agent in 2023 and opened his pro career with the Mets Orange squad in the Dominican Summer League. After a solid 2023 season, his momentum was put on hold when an injury wiped out his entire 2024 campaign. He returned in 2025, looking healthy and effective, posting a 2.51 ERA across 43 innings. Calvo allowed just 33 hits and nine walks while striking out 45, keeping hitters to a .206 average and a .281 slugging percentage. The bounce-back year was capped by being named Dominican Academy Pitcher of the Year.
