We’re single digit days away from the 2025 MLB trade deadline. Huge turnover for the New York Mets roster is expected with cuts, demotions, and a few players from the 40-man roster traded away.

As of the morning of July 22, 2025, it’s these five players we can consider on the outs of remaining with the organization by the trade deadline.

1) Rico Garcia

Here today, gone tomorrow, back again next week, Rico Garcia is this year’s Michael Tonkin. Logging games for both New York baseball teams this season, his time with the Yankees was short-lived and led to the Mets picking him up again on Monday just days after he was DFA’d.

The out of options journeyman is 100% on the roster bubble. The Mets are one roster addition away from having his replacement. In fact, as they should the last time they DFA’d him, the need for a fresh arm might be a reason enough to make him available to the other 29 teams on the waiver wire regardless of how he performs.

Garcia won’t necessarily have to leave the Mets organization. He’s a fine arm to have stocked away in Triple-A. He’d have to pass through waivers to remain with the team, something he failed to do the last time through with the Yankees intrigued enough to pick him up.

The way the Mets used Garcia, as a midseason trial for some innings, is exactly how he’ll get used for the next few days. By the time we get to the trade deadline, he needs to be replaced by a true high-leverage arm. Use other roster spots for the ones who’ll go back and forth from the minor leagues.
