4) Tylor Megill
Tylor Megill didn't show much through his first three Major League seasons. He pitched 263.1 innings, working to a 4.72 ERA, 4.65 FIP, and 1.42 WHIP. Megill had about league average 22.6% strikeout rate and 8.6% walk rate. But he was prone to allowing hard contact with a 9% barrel percentage and 1.50 HR/9 ratio. On top of that, Megill's stuff wasn't overly powerful, with just a 92 Stuff+ mark.
2024 marked a big step in the right direction for Megill. He had career-bests in many numbers, with a 4.04 ERA, 3.55 FIP, 27% K%, and 0.92 HR/9. His exit velocity dropped below 89 MPH for the first time to 88.9 MPH, and his 8.6% barrel rate also was a career-low. He allowed more walks than usual with a 9.5% BB%, but his K% rose dramatically to 27%. More importantly, however, was his 103 Stuff+, the first time he graded out as above-average in this regard.
Megill is off to a hot start to 2025. He has tossed 10.1 innings, only allowing a single earned run. He has already struck out ten batters but has allowed four walks. Megill has yet to allow a home run, with only five total hits given up. But Megill has taken another large step forward in terms of his stuff.
Stuff+ puts Megill at an impressive 120 mark. His four-seam fastball, which is averaging 95.9 MPH, is the highest of his career thus far. His curveball has gained not only movement but velocity as well. Megill's slider has also gained a ton of movement, and has only needed to sacrifice about one tick of MPH to get it.
