5 NY Mets players who catfished David Stearns worse than anybody in 2025

They looked nothing like their photos.

4) Jose Siri

Where do we start with Jose Siri? It probably doesn’t matter. He had 2 hits all year. A broken leg early in the year followed by months of rehabbing his way back, Siri finally returned late in 2025 only to pick up where he left off; doing very little.

We knew there were going to be some rough times with Siri. We just figured there’d be some fun ones, too. The all-or-nothing approach at the plate was risky. Blazing speed and gifted defensive skills made it possible to overlook.

All fans weigh batting average differently, but all will agree .063 is ugly enough to get stood up at the prom by the most generous person. Other than a few moments of seeing Siri run the bases, he was a forgettable Mets player.

When first acquired by the Mets, it seemed to fit the same description of what Stearns did the year prior. The duo of Harrison Bader with a little help from Tyrone Taylor would man center field. Bader had a strong first half only to fizzle late with Taylor picking up some of the slack. Taylor was unable to pull the full load.

A September DFA of Siri followed by his release at the end of the season makes him nothing but a catfish who fooled Stearns into thinking he was worth the Mets’ time.
