5 NY Mets players who catfished David Stearns worse than anybody in 2025

They looked nothing like their photos.

MTV cancelled Catfish a few weeks ago. Despite its low budget to create, we can only assume the cord was plugged because no sensible person should be getting catfished in 2025. It’s an outdated premise with the way information is available. Tell that to David Stearns and the New York Mets whose disappointing 2025 campaign included plenty of players saying they were someone else.

Apparently, Stearns is willing to chat with someone without seeing them on camera. Their photos may look doctored. The convenience in which they are able to come up with an excuse gets overlooked. Where was Nev when we needed him?

5) Cedric Mullins

Cedric Mullins barely makes the list because we can assume Stearns had a sense this could go wrong. Mullins didn’t feel like the top trade deadline choice for the Mets. He was available, the Baltimore Orioles needed to trade him, and a satisfactory deal was done between both teams.

It didn’t go well with Mullins batting .182 and essentially getting benched for a good portion of his stay. The look on his face when he chose to stand between first base and second base while the Washington Nationals outfielder was hurt and no timeout was called feels uncomfortably fresh in my head.

All of the signs were already there to suggest Mullins wasn’t going to improve the center field situation enough. The high cost of adding Luis Robert Jr. is the best reason why the Mets ended up with Mullins instead.

Cratering defensive skills to go along with the absence of offense, he was so bad we were craving the next guy on this list. Somehow, he catfished Stearns even worse.
