Carlos Mendoza didn't seem like their biggest fan at the end of the 2025 season.

4) Ronny Mauricio

Ronny Mauricio was on the rocks for a good portion of his time with the major league club. By “on the rocks” I am of course referring to how iced he became. Rather than demote him and use up his final minor league option, he rotted on the bench.

Despite being with the team all year after his initial call-up, Mauricio made only two starts in September. In games 161 and 162, he was called upon to start at third base for the Mets. At that point they were without Brett Baty and needed whatever they could get out of Mauricio who hadn’t started a game since August 24.

There are plenty of ways to use Mauricio. Infield versatility would theoretically make him a good match for regular spot starts. He hit right-handed pitchers well, too. Unfortunately, he came up short in the speed department. His sprint speed was measured equal to Jesse Winker and Juan Soto. Neither of them are considered quick-footed even if Soto has become an exceptional base thief.

The Mets have two things they can do with Mauricio. He either goes to the minor leagues for more regular playing time or they trade him. Letting him sit around and do nothing isn’t an option any longer.
