4) Max Kranick
Max Kranick managed to do something few athletes do: not play at all for the major league team and earn a postseason roster spot. It was a unique situation for a kid from the Poconos who grew up a Mets fan to find himself in. Kranick wouldn’t actually pitch in the NLWC series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Nonetheless, he was there.
There was some previous debate about how many minor league options Kranick had available last year. He earned a fourth year due to a lack of service time because of injuries in the minors. Roster Resource lists him as still having one available. In either case, he’s someone on the roster bubble at the moment.
Kranick pitched to a 3.57 ERA in 63 innings for Syracuse last year. Transitioning into a multi-inning reliever from a starter, he accomplished the most important goal he needed to last season by staying healthy.
The Mets already DFA’d him once last year. He decided to stick around. Good for him. It seemed to be a place where he could get back on track. He never would have been able to say he was on the Mets playoff roster if he decided to leave for another opportunity.
If his minor league options are indeed exhausted, he’ll get DFA’d at some point. If one remains as Roster Resource has listed, he’s a bit more interesting to keep around.
