2) Trade your infield surplus for any of the Red Sox outfielders
Yeah, the Mets added an ace. They haven’t solved their absence of a left fielder. Even center field is questionable. In any case, they need to solve it somehow. Free agency doesn’t offer anyone who’ll truly satisfy. Cody Bellinger is the obvious player to turn to next, but if he’s not taking the offer from the New York Yankees, do we expect the Mets to jump into the ring?
The Boston Red Sox and Mets have been regular trade partners in the past. Boston’s outfield surplus along with their need at third base makes for several interesting trade scenarios. Likely it’s Jarren Duran we see the Red Sox shop as he is the oldest and least controllable.
Duran is yet another left-handed hitting corner outfielder, but he does play some center field and could give the Mets depth there if needed. He seems too good of a fit for the Mets and if they decided to in the future, they could always rent him and trade him in the near future in a situation where maybe their outfield gets crowded with young up-and-coming stars such as Carson Benge, Jett Williams, A.J. Ewing, etc.
So, what do the Mets give up for Duran? Mark Vientos is more of a first baseman. Brett Baty? They’d create a whole new hole. Ronny Mauricio is definitely a candidate, but it’ll take a little bit more, possibly in the form of pitching, which the Mets should have more left over even after landing someone like Peralta.
