5) Steven Kwan
A uniquely gifted player who can steal runs and create them in special ways, Steven Kwan does fit the kind of players David Stearns seems to like. There are just a couple of problems.
Kwan is a light hitter and the Mets are absent of a whole lot of power right now. How are they can replace the offense Brandon Nimmo gave them in left field by going to Kwan, a different type of player completely? What’s more, with the loss of Pete Alonso fresh, is he one of the major pivots they make?
Still affordable enough to the Cleveland Guardians, I’d have doubts he gets moved in the first place. Other teams would bid higher for a player like him as he’d fit in more nicely. This wouldn’t be a devastating addition for the Mets to make. It just shouldn’t be near the top of the priority list when he’s coming as a trade and not a free agent.
Kwan is a lighter version of Diaz as an offensive player. He’ll walk about as much as he strikes out and create trouble at the top of the lineup. Based on the structure of the Mets lineup last year, it would take removing Francisco Lindor from the top and moving Juan Soto down to make this fit. It doesn’t. We can pass.
