Baseball doesn’t fully stop when the calendar flips. As attention turns to trades, free agency, and the rest of the offseason churn, winter leagues keep games going and offer a useful look at players once the regular season ends. For the New York Mets, that has meant several players putting real results on the field in winter ball. Some hitters are putting together quality at-bats, some pitchers are handling their work well, and a few Mets have done enough to separate themselves.

These five Mets have delivered the strongest winter league performances so far

Daniel Duarte

Daniel Duarte signed a minor league deal with the New York Mets in early December and has a minor league option remaining, a notable detail given how much bullpen movement the club went through last season. He was assigned to the Syracuse Mets after spending the entire 2025 season rehabbing from Tommy John surgery in the Twins organization. What he’s done since has been hard to ignore. Pitching in the Mexican Pacific League, Duarte has yet to allow an earned run in 25 appearances, giving up just 10 hits and four walks while striking out 23 over 24 innings. It’s a strong start for a pitcher coming off a lost season and a meaningful first step heading into spring.

Yonny Hernandez

Yonny Hernández carried his 2025 season straight into winter ball and hasn’t slowed down. Splitting the year between Binghamton and Syracuse, Hernández hit .303/.380/.751 with 38 RBIs and 52 runs scored across 366 at-bats, pairing that production with elite plate discipline. He drew 38 walks while striking out just 39 times between the two levels. That same approach has translated cleanly to the Venezuelan Winter League. Through 149 at-bats, Hernández is slashing .349/.436/.906 with 27 RBIs and 27 runs, along with 30 walks against 27 strikeouts. He’s added 10 extra-base hits among his 52 total knocks while moving around defensively at second base, third base, and shortstop, making his winter performance hard to overlook.

Anderson Severino

The Amazins signed Anderson Severino to a minor league contract with a spring training invite in late November. A former Yankees prospect, Severino logged his only MLB time with the Chicago White Sox in 2022, with command being an inconsistent part of his profile. This winter, the walks are still part of the picture, but they haven’t hurt him. Pitching in the Dominican Winter League, Severino has pitched to a 0.98 ERA across 23 appearances, allowing 13 hits and seven walks while striking out 19 in 18.1 innings. Keeping traffic from turning into runs has been the difference so far, and it’s made his winter performance worth noting.

Luisangel Acuna

Mets fans need no introduction to Luisangel Acuña. After finding himself on the outside of the infield picture in 2025, his playing time and at-bats were limited during the regular season. Winter ball has given him an opportunity to log consistent plate appearances. Playing in the Venezuelan Winter League, Acuña is hitting .282/.397/.939 with 32 RBIs, 42 runs scored, and 12 stolen bases across 142 at-bats. The power jump is what stands out most. He has 18 extra-base hits, eight of them home runs, while still showing patience with 26 walks against 33 strikeouts. It’s the kind of offensive stretch that matters for a player who didn’t get a steady role during the season.

Jefry Yan

Jefry Yan joined the New York Mets in early August after being released by the Colorado Rockies while pitching at Triple-A. The swing-and-miss has always been part of his profile. During his standout 2023 season between Double-A and Triple-A in the Miami Marlins system, Yan posted a 16.9 K/9, striking out 102 hitters in 59 innings. That has carried into winter ball. Pitching in the Dominican Winter League, Yan owns a 3.13 ERA across 20 appearances, allowing 14 hits and eight walks while striking out 28 in 23 innings, good for a roughly 30 percent strikeout rate.
