Which New York Mets players will be left standing at the end of the day? Within hours, the Mets have a chance to look drastically different. A center fielder and maybe some pitching additions could be on the way before the end of the day.

On the other side, the Mets could be subtracting from their roster. On the morning of the MLB trade deadline, it’s these four who feel like they may have played their last game for the team.

1) Paul Blackburn

Rumors of the Mets shopping Paul Blackburn ahead of the trade deadline only confirm further how they really feel about him. Blackburn is not someone they view favorably as a realistic option for the bullpen. Kept for the sake of adding starting pitching depth, things haven’t gone well for Blackburn this year in both performance and health.

Blackburn is still in rehab mode, but once that expires, the team will need to cut him. Keeping him around protects them from a slew of bullpen games. How different is that from what they might get out of him anyway?

There isn’t room for Blackburn outside of an injury. The team should have Tylor Megill back in August, pushing Blackburn further down the depth chart.

Blackburn came into the season as the clear trail runner for a final rotation spot. Outmatched in the spring and conveniently placed on the IL, there’s a good chance we never see him in a Mets game again.
