Ranking the 4 Mets Opening Day lineups SNY asked fans to choose from
Taking the mission one step further, let's rank these four potential lineups.
SNY’s social media team knew how to get a reaction with one of their latest posts. They posed a question with four options. Which New York Mets starting lineup would you most like to see?
All were kept in a scope of realism. Each is a viable outcome. Let’s rank these suckers starting with what feels like the weakest outcome to the strongest.
4) Option 4
Eek! Willy Adames at third base is a turn off. Ronny Mauricio at second base after a full year off from baseball and not enough shown when he last played in 2023 doesn’t help move the needle much either. The absence of Juan Soto already had this finishing behind others. It’s the least exciting of all of the choices. Blake Snell is fine and re-signing Pete Alonso would be satisfying. This just feels like an expensive yet mediocre lineup.
3) Option 2
No Juan Soto, this choice automatically falls down. This is a bit more of an outlandish option. Alex Bregman is unnecessary at third base as a big ticket item with Mark Vientos, Ronny Mauricio, and two hands crossing their fingers for Brett Baty to finally break through. Cedric Mullins could be a nice twist. Corbin Burnes on the mound adds excitement. This option’s biggest weakness is that it doesn’t include Soto.
2) Option 1
There he is out in right field. This option is last year’s club with Juan Soto added in. A snooze fest on the excitement meter, it still does require the Mets to re-sign Pete Alonso and Sean Manaea. As non-thrilling as it is, Tyrone Taylor in center field should soon be replaced by Drew Gilbert. This choice doesn’t remove the possibility of Joc Pederson or Jesse Winker still being on the team as a platoon-mate of Starling Marte. Assumptions can be made to like this lineup.
1) Option 3
This is the optimal Mets lineup. The inclusion of Juan Soto, absence of Starling Marte (maybe he’s on the bench platooning with Jesse Winker), and Garrett Crochet on the mound all help push this one over the top. We also find Christian Walker at first base in the lone scenario outlined where he ends up with the Mets. Soto was a must for any number one choice here. To get Crochet and probably the best alternative to Alonso to go along with it, there was no easier choice to make.
