3 former Yankees players the NY Mets could target but for only one reason

All three did one thing really well last year. It's just a matter of the Mets asking if it's what they need.

3) Miguel Andujar

A once untouchable Yankees prospect back in the day, Miguel Andujar has completely reinvented himself. 27 of his career 53 home runs came as a rookie in 2018. He’s a unique player who actually did well against pitchers from both sides but knocked lefties around even better.

Against southpaws, Andujar hit .389/.409/.578. Righties didn’t have an easy time either. He hit .290/.331/.429 against them. He played a lot of third base and left field poorly during his time with the Athletics and Cincinnati Reds. The plan with him in a Mets uniform would probably be similar to Refsnyder with first base maybe even being the position he appears at most commonly.

The trend of obliterating lefties isn’t a one-year wonder. He hit .411/.459/.536 the year prior against them. Signing him would be equivalent to the Yankees’ addition of Amed Rosario this offseason. The ex-Mets shortstop was signed for one-year and $2.5 million with another $250K in incentives. Andujar might cost a little more, but he’s not going to have Steve Cohen crying poor. Not much would.

There can only be room for one of these players on the Mets roster next year. Given everything they bring, it’s probably Goldschmidt who’d be most likely. He has a connection to the hitting coach, the most experience at first base with potential to put together a strong defensive performance, and would be regarded as a strong locker room presence. Oh, and most important of all, he was on the 2025 Yankees roster.
