2) A part-time corner outfielder and reliever

Rob Refsnyder signed on Monday for $6.25 million. It’s significant because there are several outfielders who profile somewhat similarly. Miguel Andujar, Randal Grichuk, and Austin Hays are a trio who are known to hit left-handed pitchers well. They should cost around the same as Refsnyder.

With additional funds left, the other half or so can go toward a bullpen piece. After seeing Shawn Armstrong sign for only $4 million and Chris Martin do the same, there are clearly some options out there who’d take up less than 50% of this $10 million the Mets just gained.

Some potential relievers who could be in that $4-6 million range include Tyler Kinley, Pierce Johnson, Hunter Harvey, and Taylor Clarke. None grab headlines, but each has a few qualities we should like.

Spending $10 million on two players isn’t such a bad idea for a Mets team that needs work. Their outfield depth is miserable and they need to add someone of value anyway. The bullpen could use at least one more pitcher and it’s not unreasonable to expect them to add more of a middle reliever than a true high-leverage guy.

If not spending it on two free agents, the Mets can invest the $10 million toward getting a trade done.
