3 under-the-radar NY Mets trade candidates you might not be thinking about

These three can add their names to the mix of upcoming summer MLB trade rumors.

Until they. steady the ship completely, it feels as if there are plenty of players on the New York Mets roster who’ll end up in different uniforms once the trade deadline passes. Viewed as sellers until they do something legitimate about it, the Mets have plenty to deal away.

It goes beyond selling Freddy Peralta or shipping out a finally healthy Luis Robert Jr. On the fringes of the roster, the Mets have some other pieces who could be desirable trade chips for the clubs whose record is glistening where theirs has rusted. Others aren’t exactly “desirable” but parts who could be better off shipped out.

And even if the Mets do turn their season around, one could argue any of these three are trade chips regardless. None are currently on the active roster and came into the season viewed as depth pieces. Will any end up in the summer Mets rumors?

Three lesser Mets trade candidates who could be summer chips

1) Mike Tauchman

Are we ever going to see Mike Tauchman in a regular season game for the Mets? His injury late in spring training changed a lot about who the Mets were early on. It gave room for Jared Young to make the team (and shine) as well as conclude any competition with Carson Benge for a spot.

The torn meniscus has made him a forgotten piece fans were excited to see added in the offseason as a minor league flier. He can be a really cheap trade target for several teams looking to buy into an injured player with something to play for.

2) Adbert Alzolay

Signed in the 2024-2025 offseason, Adbert Alzolay has only logged 7 innings all year in the minors leagues. His deal was a minor league contract so while he has bounced around at several levels on the farm, it’s not a full rehab assignment. He’s simply trying to recover from missing all of 2025 due to Tommy John surgery.

Alzolay looked like a crafty find by the Mets, signed for the purpose of helping them compete in 2026. Absent thus far and only recently coming off of the IL in the minor leagues, better health in the coming weeks could create some nibbles. Now technically healthy and in Triple-A, his first inning with Syracuse included a walk, a solo home run, and 3 strikeouts.

3) Daniel Duarte

Daniel Duarte shouldn’t go anywhere if the Mets are trade deadline buyers. They’ll need guys like him on the depth chart to get to the end of the year. As sellers, you have to figure someone could send a low-level/struggling Rule 5 Draft eligible prospect our way in exchange for this minor league free agent find.

A 3.18 ERA in 22.2 innings this season in Triple-A, Duarte has done plenty to show off he deserves a longer-than-one-game look at the MLB level. His tendency to induce ground balls can intrigue other organizations who value that as the Mets do. A Duarte trade isn’t going to net the Mets much at all, but if Dominic Leone in 2023 taught us anything, there’s a price teams will pay for nearly anyone.
