2. Willi Castro

A trade for Willi Castro would immediately fill a key hole in the Mets' lineup. Sure, he's not going to win any Gold Gloves, Baseball Savant has him in just the 7th percentile defensively, but that’s not why you bring him in. It’s his bat the Mets need. He entered the All-Star break with an OPS+ 17% better than league average and a triple slash line of .265/.356/.435.

Fans have been patient all year for the back half of the lineup will wake up, but the wait is over. 97 games in, the Mets need to make a change. Willi Castro not only offers an above-average bat but also invaluable position versatility. He has played every position this season except catcher and first base (yes, he threw a scoreless inning against the White Sox.)

Although bats like Eugenio Suarez and Luis Robert may seem more exciting, Castro, like Coulombe, is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, making it another great opportunity for a low-cost rental to improve the lineup with experience at nearly every position on the diamond.

David Stearns isn’t going to give a prospect haul for a big-name hitter. Castro fits perfectly with his vision: win now without compromising the long-term plan of building a sustainable contender, both on the field and in the minors.
