3 NY Mets trades to make if the MLB trade deadline was still on June 15

MLB's trade deadline was previously on June 15th. If the deadline were still that date, the NY Mets would go after these three players.

2) Taylor Rogers

The Mets’ bullpen took two big hits early this season. First, Danny Young underwent Tommy John surgery on May 4th. Days later, offseason signee A.J. Minter underwent season-ending lat surgery. Young and Minter were the Mets’ left-handed relievers they opened the year with. Adding another left-handed reliever via trade should be on the Mets’ to-do list, and Cincinnati Reds’ Taylor Rogers fits the bill.

Rogers is having a quality season with the Reds, pitching to a 2.82 ERA, 3.57 FIP, and 1.25 WHIP in his first 22.1 innings of the year. His 22.3% K% is slightly better than the league average, though his 9.6% walk rate is slightly worse than average. Rogers also has been decent at limiting hard contact and home runs, ranking in the 62nd percentile of exit velocity at 88.9 MPH and posting a 0.81 HR/9 ratio.

While Rogers has been solid this year, a move out of Great American Ballpark only helps him out. The Reds’ home stadium is the fourth most hitter-friendly park in the sport, according to Baseball Savant’s park factors. However, Citi Field is the sixth most pitcher-friendly venue. Rogers has yet to allow a home run while on the road and has held opponents to a .282 slugging percentage. When he pitches at home, he has opponents slugging .476 against him.

Rogers is only a rental, but the Mets could use a left-hander with high-leverage experience out of the bullpen. Since both Minter and Young went down with an injury, the Mets have had the sixth-fewest innings pitched by left-handed relievers. Jose Castillo is the only left-hander in the Mets’ bullpen, and while he has been good to start off his Mets tenure, they could still use another Southpaw.
