3) Erick Fedde
Erick Fedde was once a top-100 prospect in the Washington Nationals system. But after posting an ERA of over 5.00 from 2017 through 2022, Fedde headed to Korea, where he dominated the opposing batters. Last off-season, he signed a two-year deal with the Chicago White Sox, and his return to the US couldn’t have gone much better.
Fedde pitched 177.1 innings across 31 starts for the Sox and St. Louis Cardinals (whom he was traded to at the deadline). The right-hander pitched to a strong 3.30 ERA, 3.86 FIP, and 1.16 WHIP. While Fedde didn’t post a strong K% of just 21.2%, his 1.02 HR/9 rate was above average, and he only walked 7.2% of the opponents he faced.
Fedde induced soft contact at an above-average rate with an 88.6 MPH exit velo and a 7.6% barrel rate. Both were above the 50th percentile of pitchers in 2024. His overall ability saw a huge uptick. When Fedde was last in MLB, Stuff+ pinned his offerings at a meager 80. Upon his return, he saw that rise to 89.
Fedde is going into his age-32 campaign in 2025. He is only under control for next season as well. He won’t add much to the Mets’ already huge payroll, as he is owed just $7.5 million next year. Fedde is seen as one of the likelist players on the move this off-season, as MLB Trade Rumors named him their third best off-season trade candidate. Fedde’s return to Major League Baseball was very promising, and he could be the rotation anchor the Mets need when many of their starters from 2024 are now free agents.
