2) Ronny Mauricio, Blade Tidwell, Jonathan Pintaro, and Jose Butto to the Royals for John Schreiber and Lucas Erceg
It takes a lot longer than some would think to find the right relievers for the Mets. At this point, we need players with minor league options to make it all work. The Kansas City Royals haven’t waved the white flag yet and a pair of their bullpen arms would be perfect for the Mets.
John Schreiber and Lucas Erceg both come with minor league options. So do a few more of their relievers. Angel Zerpa (lefty) and Steven Cruz are that pairing. I went with Schreiber and Erceg because of their age.
Poor Jose Butto gets used in this trade yet again with Ronny Mauricio, Blade Tidwell, and Jonathan Pintaro tossed in as well. It’s a 4 for 2 swap to give the Mets two more bullpen arms for a relief corps that could benefit from quantity along with quality. Kansas City is clinging to dear life in the American League playoff picture. They’re fooling themselves if a trip back to the playoffs is something they believe is realistic. What would they even do when they get there?
Who says no: The Royals, easily. They do get the young Mets infielder who could be considered to have the highest ceiling of all with Mauricio. Kansas City could use outfield help, but unfortunately it’s not something the Mets have much to offer.
Send them Drew Gilbert instead of Pintaro and maybe they don’t hang up so quickly.
