3) Mets DFA Richard Lovelady

C’mon now. What are we doing here? Richard Lovelady was fun because of his name (and nickname) but there’s a championship on the line. A 10.80 ERA, 1.80 WHIP, and a large enough sample size to understand this isn’t someone to keep around on the major league roster should have the Mets kicking Lovelady to the curb as soon as they can. Fortunately, the return of Raley pretty much guarantees they will.

Lovelady hasn’t pitched since the second game of the doubleheader versus the Baltimore Orioles. He retired one batter and was charged with an earned run.

The Mets have tried just about anything they could to find a satisfying left-handed reliever in the bullpen. They’ve gone to the Lovelady tank twice, both times to no avail. The easiest explanation as to why they have continued to give him rope is they aren’t convinced there were any other in-house choices who’d be any better, opting to avoid the additional roster move to add someone to the 40-man roster who’d just end up on the waiver wire yet again like Rico Garcia.

Any chance of Lovelady being a fun locker room spark is clearly too ambitious. He is exactly what everyone already knew he was,; a warm body.
