2) Jeremy Rodriguez

Jeremy Rodriguez was a top 50 international prospect from the 2023 class. The Arizona Diamondbacks originally signed the young infielder for $1.2 million, but he didn’t last long in his first MLB organization. He was traded to the Mets that August for veteran outfielder Tommy Pham, and quickly made a good first impression during his first full season as part of his new organization.

Rodriguez hit .282/.355/.400 with a .367 wOBA and 110 wRC+ as just a 17-year-old in the Florida Complex League. He was the youngest FCL position player with at least 200 plate appearances, stepping to the dish 217 times. He only hit three home runs, but had a 9.7% walk rate and 17.1% K%. That earned him a call to A-Ball St. Lucie in 2025, but he didn’t just struggle in his second full season; he was one of the worst hitters at his level.

Rodriguez turned in an uninspiring .202/.304/.236 triple-slash. He hit just a single home run over 492 trips to the plate. He may have struck out less than 20% of the time again, with a 19.1% K%, and put up an improved 12.2% walk rate, but that’s about where the positives end for his season. Rodriguez finished the 2025 campaign with a .033 ISO, .278 wOBA, and 59 wRC+.

Rodriguez ranked among the worst hitters at the A-Ball level this season. He had the third-worst OPS, wOBA, and ISO. His wRC+ was also the worst. On top of that, he had the 18th-worst on-base percentage and the 13th-worst batting average. Rodriguez never projected as a power hitter, but he was one of just 16 batters with at least 450 plate appearances across all levels to go yard just one time or not at all this year. Only 12 A-Ball hitters had at least 250 PA’s, and a barrel rate under 1% (Rodriguez sat at 0.4%).

Rodriguez still has youth on his side, at least. He’s still just 18, and was the second youngest position player to have enough plate appearances to qualify for rate stats at A-Ball. However, one can’t help but be disappointed after seeing how well he performed in 2024, despite his youth, and how highly touted he was as an amateur.
