3 NY Mets prospects who can bump Jett Williams onto the trade block permanently

If they all make it to Opening Day, these three prospects can push Jett Williams out of the picture with a big year.

3) Nick Morabito

If it’s not Ewing patrolling center field, there’s Nick Morabito. Already added to the 40-man roster to protect him from last December’s Rule 5 Draft, he’s a speedy potential high average hitter who could get a chance this coming year. Morabito was the organization’s Minor League Player of the Year in 2024. He didn’t electrify as much this past year but still hit a solid .273/.348/.385 in Double-A. Oh, and he stole 49 bases, too.

Morabito is one of those prospects who doesn’t feel like a potential big league starter, but rather a role-player. Even so, if the two middle infield positions are blocked and he is playing his role to perfection, what job is there for Williams to do? Perhaps more likely to end up in the majors if both make it to Opening Day with the organization simply because he has more outfield experience and is already on the 40-man roster, we have to consider him as a threat to Williams’ future in Flushing.

As a truer outfielder than Williams who has only converted there out of clearing a pathway to the majors, Morabito is probably a guy who could take on the Tyrone Taylor role once he leaves the Mets. While he should be considered a trade candidate for other reasons, his presence can negate some use for Williams.

Does Williams have a future with the Mets? New York will soon need to start deciding who does and who doesn’t.
