The Mets took the rubber game from the Arizona Diamondbacks in dominating fashion. The Mets' offense exploded for seven runs on eight hits. Kodai Senga pitched six scoreless innings, and the bullpen only surrendered one run to cap off the 7-1 victory. It's the Mets' seventh series win of the 2025.
This also gave the Mets a 3-3 record on their six-game road trip. Tied for the longest road trip of the season thus far. While this trip was filled with ups and downs, the Mets were still able to pull out a .500 record while not playing their best baseball. A true mark that this is a special team we're watching. Here are three players who helped propel the Mets to this success
1) Luisangel Acuna
One of the most exciting players for the Mets this season has been Luisangel Acuna. After nearly not making the Opening Day roster, he's shown that it would have been a major mistake to send him back to Triple-A. He's been so good that the Mets have to get creative with the lineup to give him playing time every day.
Over the road trip, Acuna started five of the six games, racking up five hits, two RBIs, and two walks. One of these hits was an RBI single during the finale game against the Diamondbacks to extend the Mets' lead to 2-0. He also had two stolen bases to add to his team of nine. Watching him run the bases reminds you of a young Jose Reyes flying around the bases at Shea.
Although it's only been a month, Acuna has more than earned the right to be the everyday second baseman on this team. Through the 31 games he's appeared in, he's slashed .298/.362/.369 with four RBIs, eight walks, a 112 OPS+, and a wRC+ of 112. Clearly, he's good enough to be in the big leagues, and he could be a special player for the Mets.
