3) Kevin Parada
This is my absolute favorite one! Everyone loves to include Kevin Parada in trades for the Mets because they already have youthful Francisco Alvarez behind the plate. It’s reasonable except Parada has gotten off to such a slow start professionally he has been lapped by others. A first-round pick back in 2022 by the Mets, a .214/.304/.359 slash line with 13 home runs in Double-A last year was bad enough. Factor in that he struck out 153 times in 454 plate appearances, it was another disappointing season for a guy once believed to have a chance to co-host behind the dish at Citi Field.
Despite knowing how badly Parada has performed, he is unable to escape mock trades for very good major league players. One can claim him as the most expendable player in the system because of Alvarez. With this in mind, including him in any trade does absolutely nothing for the other team involved.
Parada turns 24 next August which does help his case as someone with time to develop further. Unfortunately, a lot needs to change. He hasn’t received rave reviews defensively. The offense output speaks for itself.
Trades for good players need to hurt your team. Give them incentive to want to say “yes.” Your team’s scraps won’t get it done.
