2) Jared Young

Jared Young was another candidate for the Mets' final roster spot. While he was seen as a long shot, he did have an interesting case to make the team. At the end of 2023, it looked like his MLB career was almost over. The Cubs placed him on waivers, and the Cardinals removed him from the 40-man roster. With so little interest as a free agent, he had to go over to South Korea. That's where he slashed .326/.420/.660 with 10 home runs and 39 RBIs over 38 games.

Just like Walton, Young spent some time in extended spring training before going to Triple-A Syracuse. In his 14 between both levels, he's slashed .302/.474/.581 with two home runs to 11 RBIs. As mentioned before, Young also has spent a brief stint in the majors. Through 22 games, he slashed .210/.290/.436 with two home runs and eight RBIs.

Young will be a guy who rides the bench for the Mets. Someone who will be a pinch hitter late in tournaments if the Mets need a big hit. He could also get the occasional start, if the Mets want to have a little more power in their lineup. Young can also play all over the field, giving the Mets some creativity when they want to put him in the lineup.
