3 players who’ve made themselves more desirable to the NY Mets in the MLB playoffs

A strong postseason made these potential fits a little more desirable.

3) Tarik Skubal

Duh! Tarik Skubal was already desirable. The postseason only made him more so. Coming off of a 2.21 ERA season and assuring he’ll at worst finish second in the AL Cy Young race a year after winning the award, Skubal has been the most discussed Mets offseason target thus far.

Skubal made one start in the ALWC and struck out 14 in 7.2 innings. One run was scored against him. In the ALDS, Skubal had two shots. A combined 13 innings and 3 earned runs against him, he managed to compile an outrageous 22 punchouts. Somehow, he didn’t get a win in either game.

Those Skubal trade rumors aren’t going to vanish anytime soon. His availability is going to hold up the offseason to a degree. He’ll be the guy whose availability could make the MLB Winter Meetings an absolute bore because teams like the Mets are holding out hope for the Tigers to trade him.

Skubal now has a 2.04 ERA in the MLB playoffs when we combine his numbers from 2024. Yet to escape the Divisional Series, the Tigers have a choice to make. Do they bolster the roster around him to make themselves a truer competitor or reinvest this asset for long-term assistance? The wise play is to just pay this star pitcher they drafted in the 9th round back in 2018. Or, you know, trade him to the Mets. Our mouths can’t stop watering.
