A cold and wet Father's Day weekend in Queens was an ugly one -- and I'm not just talking about the weather. For the first time all season, the New York Mets found themselves on the losing end of a sweep, giving up a three-game set to a pesky Tampa Bay Rays team. Failed RISP opportunities, questionable managerial decisions, and rumors of dead balls circled social media throughout the series as the Rays came into town and swept the Mets -- who had previously lost just seven games at home -- on their turf.

There were plenty of things that went wrong this weekend, but there are three players who take the majority of the blame.

1) Pete Alonso

In a season that has gone so right for Pete, the past few days have gone so wrong. Alonso took most of the blame on social media for Kodai Senga's hamstring injury on Thursday due to his poor throw to Senga at first. Even though Senga told Alonso afterwards that the injury was felt beforehand, it's speculated that the situation was messing with Alonso's head this weekend, and his performance certainly showed that.

Alonso went just 2-for-12 this weekend, unable to come through in several clutch situations. On Friday night, with what was at the time a 5-1 lead, he failed to capitalize on a bases loaded situation in the fifth, striking out against Eric Orze. Later that night, down 7-5, he popped out in the ninth against Pete Fairbanks, unable to spark a rally.

There may have been worse hitters than Alonso this weekend in an overall offensive failure. Still, the Mets are going to look to their slugger amid his best season yet to provide them with big hits, and not only could he not do that this series, but many of his bats looked uncompetitive.
