3) Blade Tidwell

Blade Tidwell was never a phenomenal Mets prospect, lingering as a tween at best on most lists. Rocked around in his limited 15 innings at the major league level this year, it’s probably time to realize he probably isn’t going to have a crucial role for the team in the near future.

This means shopping Tidwell around, hoping other teams will overlook his poor Triple-A results. He has now logged 156.2 innings in Syracuse beginning last season. An unsatisfying 5.23 ERA is the result.

Tidwell was the second round pick of the team in 2022 in a draft that seemed to have some unexpected hits. Jett Williams was their second of two first round picks after Kevin Parada. More stunning was how they snagged Jonah Tong in the 7th round.

Tidwell’s professional career has followed a common pattern of struggling at the newest level when he first gets there. Triple-A hasn’t been quite the same as he hasn’t quite established himself there; something several Mets pitching prospects have been victimized by. His 4.40 ERA in 71.2 innings of work this year with Syracuse won’t be a strong selling point. In a package deal with maybe Acuna or Mauricio, maybe the Mets are able to get a halfway decent bullpen piece.
