2) Luis De Los Santos
Luis De Los Santos was claimed off waivers by the Mets from the Toronto Blue Jays in November. The infielder made his MLB debut last year, only appearing in 13 games with 31 plate appearances. In total, he had just five hits, struck out ten times, and drew a pair of walks. However, his numbers in the minor leagues were better.
De Los Santos slashed .268/.376/.486 with a .385 wOBA, and 126 wRC+. His isolated slugging percentage was above .200 at .217, and he drew walks in 13.2% of his plate appearances. But he struck out at an unimpressive 23.6% rate. He also had some respectable numbers under the hood with a 90.7 MPH exit velocity, .339 wOBA, and 9.5% barrel rate.
But take his numbers with a grain of salt. De Los Santos only received 167 plate appearances, with 154 coming at Triple-A. He also had a whiff rate of 32.9%, and 2024 is his only season in the minor leagues where he has ever put up a wRC+ over 100. The Mets have plenty of better options on the 40-man roster as well.
Luisangel Acuna and Ronny Mauricio will get a shot well before De Los Santos is given an opportunity. Even Brett Baty should be ahead on the depth chart over De Los Santos. No Pete Alonso should not be enough where De Los Santos is someone who should stick on the 40-man roster, even with minor league options remaining.
