2) Anthony Gose

A far more recognizable name for the common fan, Anthony Gose is one of the more unique players in baseball. He has, to a degree, successfully transitioned from promising young outfielder to relief pitcher. He last played regularly in the majors as a position player back in 2016 as a member of the Detroit Tigers. In 2021, he debuted as a big league reliever for the Cleveland Guardians where he spent the last several seasons pitching to a 4.78 ERA in 32 innings of work.

Unimpressive results are what made him nothing more than a minor league pickup for the Mets. However, with the organization investing as much as they have into the pitching lab, players like him are ideal projects to take on and see if they can get more from.

Gose has been good this spring and of any of the three names listed here, has the most reasonable chance to make the Opening Day roster if he’s able to outperform Danny Young. He has faced 19 batters this spring, striking out 5 in as many innings while allowing 2 hits and walking 3. Goose eggs beside his ERA, Gose has made as much of a case as any non-roster invitee to join the team in Houston when the season begins.
