2) Jose Siri

Jose Siri is another injured player who might be unable to fit in with the Mets roster before returning, mainly because of his on-field performances this season before getting hurt. He has had 20 at-bats in 10 games and only put up a .050 batting average with one RBI, so he hasn’t done much at the plate this season to help the team win. He also has a history of striking out a lot in his career. Last season he struck out 170 times, which is the most of his career.

Siri is currently on the IL with a fractured left tibia after fouling a ball off his left leg in a game against the Athletics on April 12. The Mets traded for Siri during the offseason to bring in a center fielder whose defense has been outstanding throughout his time with the Tampa Bay Rays. They also brought him in to essentially serve as a backup to Tyrone Taylor. He is going to be out for a while, and the team has been doing solid offensively and winning games, so he could lose his spot on the team before returning, which could end up being sometime in June barring any setbacks.

With Siri out, the Mets are going to test the waters with Jeff McNeil and Luisangel Acuna in center field at times. There's also a possibility of a prospect such as Drew Gilbert getting the call before Siri is back. The redundancy of Siri and Taylor together could have the Mets turning in another direction.
