The Mets roster could look a lot different within the next week and for the better.

3) Danny Young DFA’d, Dedniel Nunez called up

Danny Young started off cold, warmed up, and is now once again the weak link in the bullpen. He’s not having a miserable year, but for the sake of some added roster flexibility, his time with the Mets could be coming to a close.

The Mets will need to DFA Young in order to make any swap. The man to replace him is Dedniel Nunez.

Statistically, Nunez is doing very little to prove he belongs back on the MLB roster. His 5.14 ERA through 7 innings doesn’t scream “call me back up!” Young with a 5.40 ERA after allowing 2 earned against the St. Louis Cardinals this past Sunday yells something else, “you don’t need to keep me!” Nunez was demoted purposefully to start the year due to health. If that’s no longer an issue, the Mets have little reason to keep Young around when he’s going to be as unusable in most situations. They’d be better off with someone more capable of moving up the depth chart.

At minimum, an optional reliever they could send back to the minors in exchange for someone else adds roster flexibility they have but would prefer not to use. Their optional relievers have been too important this year to be without.
