3) Jalen Beeks
Unlike the previous two guys mentioned, Jalen Beeks hasn't been linked to the Mets in the path. Or at least there has been serious enough interest that leaked out to the public. There might have been internal discussions about him, but we'll never know. However, Beeks is a guy that has been available in the past. He was traded at this year's deadline from the Colorado Rockies to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Beeks had a decent season last season pitching to a 4.50 ERA over 70 innings, with 55 strikeouts to 27 walks, a 1.486 WHIP, and an ERA+ of 100. Now at first glance, these numbers aren't anything to write home about. However, you have to remember that he spent the majority of the season in Colorado. Once he got to Pittsburgh he had an ERA of 3.92 over 20.2 innings with 17 strikeouts to 9 walks, a 1.790 WHIP, and an ERA+ of 109.
Over his six years in the bigs, he's pitched to a 4.40 ERA over 347.2 innings with 329 strikeouts to 138 walks, a 1.421 WHIP, and an ERA+ of 96. Once again those numbers don't jump off the page, but when you consider he spent 5 1/2 seasons in Colorado the numbers aren't that bad. Plus his career FIP is 3.98 indicating he's gotten unlucky during his time in the majors.
Now is Beeks a top-of-the-line reliever like Chafin or Tanner Scott, no. But he's an under-the-radar signing who could make a big impact for the Mets in 2025. He is a guy you give a cheap contract to only to make a big impact for the club. The type of reliever that David Streans has seemed to target during his tenure as Mets President of Baseball Operations.
