3 NY Mets free agents we should be most confident will be back in the New York Groove

Fans should be most optimistic about a return for these three Mets free agents.

3) Ryne Stanek

There are a few other Mets free agents who are theoretical fits to return. Jose Iglesias would be welcomed back with open arms. The team’s abundance of infield options and perhaps even a desire to have a lefty on the bench might have other cubs offering Iglesias more cash along with extended playing time. Jesse Winker feels a bit more moot with Juan Soto on the roster. Plus, other ball clubs should be able to offer more playing time. Phil Maton? The Mets turned down their team option on him. A wise choice, they didn’t think enough of him to play defense at what wasn’t too ridiculous of a price just over $7 million.

Ryne Stanek, meanwhile, remains unsigned and looks like a match for the Mets. The team has yet to significantly bolster their bullpen this offseason. Several small moves have given them options. They have yet to add a truly impactful reliever to the roster. Bringing back Stanek is worth a look.

Before he was traded to the Mets from the Seattle Mariners, Stanek was an offseason target for them last winter. He didn’t have a great regular season for New York but pitched incredibly well in the playoffs.

Stanek falls into a vast market of middle relievers with potential to be higher leverage arms. He should receive similar and competitive offers from multiple teams. As badly as the Mets could use one of the upper echelon relievers added to their roster this offseason, rounding out the bullpen with someone such as Stanek feels necessary, too.
