One of the best parts about spring training is seeing familiar faces on new teams. Seeing where former New York Mets players end up after leaving Queens is always fun to see. While fans may not have liked the players while they were with the Mets, it's always nostalgic to see these old players. Normally it causes us to root for them and hope they can keep producing in the majors. However, for the players on this list, this spring training has gotten off to a rough start.
1) Mark Canha
During the offseason, it was reported that the Mets were interested in bringing back Mark Canha. While all the drama surrounding Pete Alonso and his contract was going around, the Mets were casting a wide net of potential backup plans. One of these plans was to bring back Canha, who was Met from 2022-23, on a minor league deal and teach him first. A move fans were open to due to how popular of a player he was.
When the Mets re-signed Alonso, they abandon any reunion plans they had with Canha, causing him to sign a minor league deal with the Milwakuee Brewers. With how he's played so far, it appears the Mets have dodge a bullet. Through 28 plate appearances, he's recorded a double, a home run, two RBIs, and has struck out and walk four times. His slash line for the spring is .087/.250/.200.
The Brewers were hoping that Canha could've provided solid veteran depth. If one of their corner outfielders or first baseman went down, Canha was good enough to weather the storm and put up average numbers. However, with how much he's struggled, plus his age, this is something Milwaukee can not count on anymore. The question should be if he has anything left.
