3 former NY Mets players who’ve already been cut from a major league roster

The MLB season is young but roster sheers don't care for these ex-Mets players.

2) Omar Narvaez

We all know better than to trust Omar Narvaez for too long. He hit only .211 in 2023. Before getting cut by the Mets in 2024, he was batting .154. There might not be a worse free agent signing of the Steve Cohen era. He makes James McCann look like Mike Piazza at the plate and Jerry Grote behind it.

Narvaez predictably had to settle on a minor league deal. He joined the Chicago White Sox and in 4 games he received 10 plate appearances. The tiny sample equated to a 2 for 7 performance and 3 RBI. It wasn’t enough. The White Sox wanted to see what Edgar Quero can do thus leaving Narvaez out of a job.

Up to some of his old tricks behind the plate, Narvaez allowed 6 of 7 attempted base thieves to steal one against him. Other defensive stats measure poorly in the limited sample. He even managed to pick up an error which there’s no need to really look up but a good guess is catcher’s interference. He had 5 in each season with the Mets.

A veteran catcher like Narvaez has a chance to land on his feet for the sole sake of how battered players at the position get. Just don’t expect him to do more than visit the major leagues again.
