Not everyone leaves the New York Mets and enjoys their stay with a new team. We’re less than a month into the season and already a few of our exes have been cut from someone’s MLB roster.
While the Mets have been incredibly tame with cutting any cord, mainly because they have none to slice just yet, other teams have already tossed players aside. Among those tossed into the DFA pile are these three former Mets players.
1) Adam Ottavino
We could cheat you and have Adam Ottavino on this list twice. Signed by the Boston Red Sox to a minor league deal, Ottavino opted out of his contract and rejoined another team he spent time with in the past, the New York Yankees. They immediately put him on their MLB roster and DFA’d him before his pants finished in the dryer. Ottavino immediately re-signed with the Yankees on another minor league deal. Once again, he was cut by the team.
All of the events involving the Yankees occurred between April 1 and April 10. The two sides have yet to come to terms on a new deal. The ex-Mets reliever wasn’t especially sharp in his 1.2 innings in 3 games. He walked 4, struck out 3, and didn’t allow any hits.
Ottavino is coming off of a poor season with the Mets featuring a 4.34 ERA. It was the highest in any full season (2020 excluded) since the 5.06 in 2017 as a member of the Colorado Rockies. A statistical victim of bad luck shown by a 3.67 FIP, Mets fans who endured year three of his in Queens know he lost a few steps. So did management. Ottavino survived the season, but didn’t get a single appearance in the playoffs.
