Anytime a former New York Mets player finds success with another team, a button is pushed. Its location is somewhere between panic and misery. Sometimes it proves to be right. Other times it’s prematurely swatted. Then there are instances when an ex-Mets player no one even remembers succeeds years later. Here’s looking at you, Dennis Santana.
In 2025, these three former Mets all found a new home. Unfortunately for them, they’ve failed to become the same fan favorites they were while in New York.
1) Michael Conforto
The Los Angeles Dodgers love to add superstar talent. They’ll pay any price; even if the cash doesn’t change hands for another half-century. The loaded World Series defenders had a hole in their outfield and decided to fill it with Michael Conforto. After two underwhelming years with the San Francisco Giants, they didn’t shy away from stealing him from their NL West rival. The results haven’t been fantastic.
Conforto is slashing .195/.305/.345 with 9 home runs this season. His left field defense has rated poorly, worth -6 Outs Above Average. Only Heliot Ramos and Jasson Dominguez have a worse total at the position.
On a one-year deal worth $17 million, the Dodgers can ponder if maybe there was a different choice at a lower cost they could have added instead. After all, he showed in his years with the Giants he was limited. Those glory days with the Mets were long gone.
It’s getting to the point where the Dodgers might need to release him, if not just dump him onto the bench a little more regularly.
