2) Jose Siri and a prospect are dealt for a bullpen arm in the minor leagues
Whenever The Simpsons put together a Treehouse of Horrors, the second story is the weakest. Not here. This is my favorite of the bold predictions. The Mets actually find a taker for Jose Siri despite his lengthy injury. Available team control for next year makes this reasonable when paired with a prospect. In return, the Mets get back a pitcher in the minor leagues.
David Stearns thinks outside of the box. Who saw Huascar Brazoban coming to the Mets last summer? What about Tyler Zuber? This is the kind of trade that cannot be predicted accurately. With the addition of Mullins, Siri becomes unnecessary. Adding to the bullpen depth is more important.
Expect the trade to be for a guy blocked on the major league roster, underperforming this year, or eligible for the Rule 5 Draft this winter. Someone a team doesn’t have space for or is ready to move on from would make sense. It wouldn’t even necessarily have to be a seller. If a center field-needy ball club wants to put faith into Siri actually returning this year and contributing, maybe they take a shot at him.
Maybe this is a bit of wishful thinking. Nothing indicates the Mets would or could actually accomplish this. And with the two examples of Brazoban and Zuber, it’s totally conceivable that the end result could work out well or blow up in their faces.
