3) The whole pitching staff helping the Mets win
The Mets pitching staff so far this season has been solid. This weekend, however, they were even better. They only allowed a total of 3 runs in the entire series, including the shutout they pitched against the Blue Jays on Friday's home opener. They struck out hitters a combined 29 times, in addition to not allowing a home run. Although the starting pitchers, Tylor Megill, Griffin Canning, and David Peterson, didn't go deep in any of the games, they still looked sharp and kept the Blue Jays from scoring for the majority of the series. Even the bullpen was successful, not just this series but in every game so far.
There were some concerns about the Mets pitching staff before the beginning of the season, particularly regarding the starting rotation. The results from the Blue Jays series have certainly changed that narrative, as the starters who pitched this weekend all have ERAs under three, with Megill's at 0.87.
The Mets as a team are known for how strong their pitching has been throughout the years. This season's pitching staff only allowing three runs in a three-game series against a good Blue Jays team is essentially a statement that they're capable of competing against elite offenses. They can keep themselves in games and give the offense opportunities to come from behind when down a run or two, or even to simply win games.
