2) Keith Hernandez has been a New York Mets TV commentator for the 1998-2025 seasons.

Hernandez was the first captain of the New York Mets…and for good reason. He KNEW the game. He was one of the smartest players on the field. He PROBABLY could have made a good manager but he was very old school and wouldn’t translate well to the modern day player even nearly 30 years ago after retiring as a player. Hernandez has always been likable and provides the kind of insight you would get if he were actually on the field playing with a microphone on him. As the years have gone on, he definitely seems to get bored if the game is not competitive. However, it appears more that he is disgusted with what has become of the game and the sense of entitlement of the modern day players than a lack of enthusiasm. And the best part about Keith…he won’t BS or cover up for anyone. He may be a Met broadcaster, but he is not a “homer.” He’ll call out a Met just as much as an opponent. And ya gotta love that.

1) Ron Darling is now in his 20th season as New York Mets TV commentator, on the air for the 2006-2025 seasons.

Darling is the most intelligent and articulate person who ever donned a microphone in a Mets broadcast booth. You would expect a Yale graduate to be intelligent and articulate, but the fact that he can bring those attributes to a baseball game is the icing on the cake. Darling was the final piece of the Gary-Keith-Ron piece and will now be in his 20th year with the Mets. Darling and Hernandez were great teammates down on the field, and they work extremely well together up in the booth. Darling brings an insight to the game that is honest and direct, and just like Hernandez, he won’t BS or cover up for anyone. He is less of a story-teller than Hernandez, but is also more in depth when it comes to the analytics of the game. Hernandez and Darling are pretty even as to how they rank as Mets color commentators, but Darling gets a very slight edge over his teammate and partner.
