The New York Mets season fell just short of the goal that every team in baseball sets early in the year but it'll be hard to forget how special this team was. From starting the season 0-5 to turning into the best team in baseball once June came around, it's hard to be disappointed with how far this group went. There is a lot to unpack regarding this season and why this Mets team is one of the most memorable in a very long time.

Coming into the season, we all expected the same old Mets to sell at the deadline and not make the playoffs. Things changed fast in what is said to be a transition year, now we can look back and appreciate what this team was able to accomplish with so little expectations.

The Comeback Mets

The Amazins had the most comeback wins in all of baseball this season with 45, that's including the postseason. Not only did they have the most comeback wins but they also had the most 9th inning comebacks with 9. No matter how many runs down they were in any inning during a game, you couldn't count this team out.

Great players come up in big moments and that's what we saw all season. A good amount of those comeback victories came in the most crucial moments of the regular season, which is why this team will be so memorable. From Francisco Lindor breaking up a no-hitter in the 9th inning against the Toronto Blue Jays to making a miraculous comeback against the Atlanta Braves to clinch a playoff berth, this team just never went away no matter the circumstances. Then we saw a couple more comeback wins in the playoffs including Pete Alonso's 3-run go-ahead home run against the Brewers to advance to the NLDS.

The OMG Mets

Who would have thought that Jose Iglesias would be one of the sparks for the Mets? A 34-year-old infielder who has been passed around the league at the backend of his career to being a crucial part of the Mets success. Iglesias side gig is a Latin artist by the stage name of Candelita and decided to make his unreleased single "OMG" his walk-up song at Citi Field. This led to everyone in the clubhouse singing the lyrics to the 2024 Mets anthem. Whenever New York hit a home run, players would get together in the dugout and take a photo with the "OMG" sign.

The hit single brought everyone together, leading to amazing vibes and great team chemistry in the clubhouse. Iglesias even performed the song at Citi Field on June 28th after a victory against the Houston Astros. With "OMG" signs being held by fans and players, it was obvious that there was something special in the air with this Mets team.

The Underdog Mets

Coming into the season with such low expectations brought a different type of feeling in Queens, especially in year one of the David Stearns era. With a not so flashy offseason and Senga being hurt before game 1 of 162, it was one of those seasons where the fans will just live with it and wait for 2025. According to Fangraphs, The Mets had a 29.9% chance to just make the playoffs, 5.6% chance to win the NLDS, and 1.1% chance to win the World Series.

The bar was very low for this team and they proved everyone wrong with the outcome of the 2024 season. A ton of 1-year high-upside deals from David Stearns led to one of the most remarkable seasons in the last decade of Mets baseball.
