The Mets should trade Luisangel Acuna because he’s going to end up DFA’d soon anyway

There’s an easy conclusion to draw with Luisangel Acuna. He isn’t going to be a stud major league player. His bat just hasn’t caught up. Perhaps another team with more patience would take a chance on him.

Holding on Acuna for another year can have disastrous consequences as he’s nearing DFA territory. Unless Acuna provides some significant value this coming year, it’s hard to make valid reasons why he should remain on the roster moving forward. Now is a good time to include him in a trade with any interested party.

The Mets shouldn’t trade Luisangel Acuna because he can have some value this coming year

Acuna is very replaceable but his skills might be tough to find with the outside chance at some upside. His speed and defense up the middle are good traits. The Mets have shown in the last two seasons how preferable it is for them to carry a speedster on the roster if, for nothing else, late inning pinch running.

Of all the things to doubt Acuna on, his legs aren’t one of them. As long as the rest of the roster is properly built with his weaknesses in mind, he can be useful. Just don’t ask him to hit much. Maybe take him onto the back fields and work on perfecting the bunt? There are worse ways to use one of your roster spots.
