The New York Mets are on quite the early season run. Thanks to hot starts from Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor, and basically the entire pitching staff, the Mets find themselves with a 22-11 record atop the NL East after taking down the Cardinals on Friday night. Unfortunately, a nasty weather system rolling over basically the entire eastern half of the US is threatening the second game of the series.
The Mets have had a lot of good fortune come their way, but no amount of rubbing rabbit's feet can do much against this kind of weather as the matchup between the Mets and Cardinals is officially rained out. Instead, the two teams will play a split-admission doubleheader on Sunday.
Mets vs. Cardinals Rainout: Here is everything we know about when this game is going to be made up
If you are hoping this game is going to get finished today, you may be in for some disappointment. These two squads were against some long odds to get this game started on time and as the day progresses, things certainly didn't look great.
So, like many other teams around MLB today who are being impacted by this same system, we are firmly in wait-and-see mode. Mets fans have to feel pretty good about having Tylor Megill on the mound against a struggling Erick Fedde and "retooling" Cardinals offense. They will just have to wait until tomorrow to see if that holds true.
With that, all of the uncertainty about the weather is discarded. Playing a doubleheader on a getaway day while on the road is far from ideal. Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done about it now and the Mets will just have to deal with the cards dealt to them.
