The New York Mets are coming off a pretty brutal sweep at the hands of the Rays and are looking to take their frustrations out on someone. That someone is (hopefully) the Atlanta Braves who are playing for their lives right now. If the Mets can bully Atlanta this week, it will all but knock them out in 2025, but some rainy weather in the area has other plans.

David Peterson takes the mound for New York and he has largely kept the Braves in check during his career and Peterson has looked very strong this season. Facing him on Tuesday will be Spencer Schwellenbach who is having a great season himself, but may not have the best arsenal to deal with as many lefties as he is going to see. Sadly, this highly anticipated matchup is on pause as the Braves announced well before game time that this one will begin in a rain delay.

UPDATE: 7:25 PM

The weather is improving down in Atlanta pretty quickly as predicted. The Mets' matchup with the Braves will begin at 8:10 PM unless there is a pretty radical change in the forecast this evening.

Mets vs. Braves, 6/17/24: When will the game start?

Given how important this game is to both teams and the fact that no one wants to play a doubleheader during the week or later in the season when downtime will be precious, expect every effort to be put in to play this game tonight. There are some strong storms in the area, but the system seems to be moving through Atlanta pretty quickly and, if the forecast is right, things look a lot more promising closer to 8 PM EST tonight.

We will update this post as more information is made available about how the weather is looking and when an estimated game start time is announced. Best guess at the moment is a delay of maybe an hour at most, so get caught up on things around the house or read up on the Mets right here. Unless something wild happens, we should get Mets baseball tonight.
