A NY Mets-Marlins trade package to land Sandy Alcantara

With the Marlins likely sending away Sandy Alcantara via trade this season, the Mets could be a team that swoops in and makes a deal for the ace.

After just dominating the New York Mets last night, the Sandy Alcantara buzz is starting to begin as a couple of Mets players spoke with Mike Puma of the New York Post.

Francisco Lindor had this to say about what it would mean if the Marlins ace ended up in Queens, "It would almost be like adding Soto. You add Soto, it's going to help the team. You add Alcantara and it's going to help the team."

Not only did Lindor have an opinion on Alcantara but Juan Soto had things to say about it as well, "It would be one of the best trades that we could have. I know we have great pitching here, but adding a Cy Young winner like that would be huge."

Soto wasn't done there as he added, "If he goes to a team that has a chance to compete at the end, I think you are going to see who he is. He is doing that on a team that has no serious chance to go to the playoffs, but he keeps trying and competing even without run support. Whenever he goes to a winning team you are going to see what Sandy Alcantara is capable of." Juan Soto then continued his praise about Sandy Alcantara by saying, "He's really smart and he knows what he is doing. He's really brave, he's not scared to come at people and he is going to attack you when he does."

It's obvious that somehow adding an elite pitcher like Sandy Alcantara to this Mets rotation could possibly make them favorites to win the division but the price won't be cheap. "It's going to take a lot to get him" Soto said. If even he knows that the return for Sandy would be hefty, what is a realistic package to acquire a player like him?

Mock Trade Package

New York Mets receive - SP Sandy Alcantara
Miami Marlins receive - SS Jett Williams (Mets No.2 Prospect according to MLB Pipeline), RHP Nolan McLean (Mets No.5 Prospect according to MLB Pipeline), INF Luisangel Acuña (Mets No. 7 Prospect according to MLB Pipeline), and RHP Nate Dohm (Mets No. 19 Prospect according to MLB Pipeline)

At first glimpse, the package does look like a lot but a player like Sandy Alcantara takes the Mets to another level by including a quality ace in a rotation that is desperate for a top pitcher. Alcantara is set to make $17,300,00 each season for the next two years and then there's a club option in 2027 for $21,000,000, meaning he would be an unrestricted free agent in 2028. The chances of Sandy signing an extension with the team he's traded could also be a possibility, similar to the Garrett Crochet deal as he just signed a new contract with the Boston Red Sox.

Sandy Alcantara has been consistent at a high rate, having a career 3.72 ERA in 910.1 innings pitched. He recently won the NL Cy Young Award in 2022 posting a 2.28 ERAand .980 WHIP along with 207 strikeouts. The 29-year-old ace is also coming off a recent Tommy John surgery that led to him missing the entire 2024 season but he has looked very good in his first two starts of the 2025 season.

The Marlins would be receiving four prospects who could elevate their team in the near future and be influential in the current rebuild. Acuña would be an everyday starter, Jett Williams could find himself starting in center field, McLean would bolster the rotation, and Tong is a pitcher with a very high ceiling. This trade benefits both teams for not only now but also for the future, let's see if David Stearns eventually pulls the trigger on a blockbuster deal like this.
