Baseball writers are reporting on New York Mets rumors about free agent shortstop Javy Baez early in the offseason. Baez is a tremendous athlete who can help a team with his powerful swing, his base running, and his defense.

Baez had a good season overall, with a 117 OPS+, .813 OPS, 31 homers, 87 RBI’s, and 18 stolen bases. He really turned it on in the second half with the Mets, putting up a 141 OPS+, an .889 OPS, and hitting 22 of his homers.

Several baseball writers reported on New York Mets rumors on Wednesday evening.

At 9:10 pm on Wednesday night, MLB.com reporter and MLB Network insider Mark Feinsand tweeted that the Mets had a meeting with Baez’s agents. He says that the Baez market is very active early in the offseason.

Michael Mayer, executive editor at Metsmerized.com, quote tweeted that saying the indication he has received is that Baez could sign very early in the offseason and that the Mets are “very serious” in bringing Baez back. This was backed by Danny Abriano, senior editorial producer at SNY, saying that Sandy Alderson heavily praised Baez.

Baez has also been linked to the Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, and, of course, the Chicago Cubs. These teams are all in the market for a shortstop, so they have been linked to all of the other studs available this offseason as well. The Yankees, Red Sox, and Blue Jays are looking for a guy who can move to second base. The Yankees have two of their top three prospects at shortstop. The Red Sox have Xander Bogaerts, who defensively belongs at DH but has one of the best bats at shortstop. The Blue Jays have Bo Bichette, so they’re looking for someone to replace Marcus Semien if he signs elsewhere.

dark. Next. Could Michael Conforto sign with Philly?

It sounds like Baez will have a home sooner than later. It could be in Queens, but with a line of potential suitors, things could get interesting in the near future.
