Miami Marlins outfielder Starling Marte may soon be a big name in MLB trade rumors circles. The club and players are reportedly far apart in negotiations for an extension. As a result, Jon Heyman reports that it is likely we will see Marte traded this month.
Where could Marte land? According to Heyman, the Philadelphia Phillies, Houston Astros, and New York Yankees are among the teams hoping to pull the veteran outfielder away from Miami.
Could it be that we see the New York Mets enter the conversation of these MLB trade rumors? Given their more pressing need of adding a starting pitcher, Marte would seem to be more of a luxury item than an actual piece to pursue.
Other MLB trade rumors Mets fans should know about
MLB trade rumors were a little quieter than expected this weekend. We still have another break from the regularly scheduled workweek to learn about some new whispers. The Marte reports only really affect the Mets if he ends up with the Phillies. They are breathing down the Mets’ necks right now and have been in need of a center field upgrade all year long.
Meanwhile, other MLB trade rumors give some insight into what a few more teams are up to.
All from Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the New York Yankees are looking for an outfielder, the Los Angeles Dodgers are in the market for starting pitching, and the Oakland Athletics have their eyes on relievers. The Dodgers’ pursuant of a starter is the biggest that could get in the way of whatever it is the Mets have planned. We have seen plenty of times where Los Angeles has been able to get the guy they wanted at the trade deadline.
Not truly in the market for any outfielders, we can rest easy with whatever it is the Yankees do. Our neighbors in the other borough aren’t having the year they expected. A major trade deadline splash for them might not even be enough to turn their season around.
In the case of the Athletics, I’m never so sure we can count them out of anything until the playoffs actually do arrive. Their organization is built differently. MLB trade rumors linking them to a desire for relief pitchers should come as no surprise. As steady as the Mets bullpen has been for a good chunk of this year, even they could use another relief arm.
